Nadam

Nadam is the biggest holiday and festival in Mongolia. This year the celebration is especially big because it is also the 800th anniversary of the Mongolian state. Nadam celebrates the “three manly sports”: archery, horse racing and wrestling. Archery is actually participated in by men and women, and children race the horses. Wrestling, however, does seem to be a manly endeavor. For three day the country shuts down for the games, ceremonies and parties.

For those of us unfortunate enough to get stuck in camp, we had a wrestling tournament. I wrestled in the first round for about ten seconds before being introduced to the ground (video to follow).

There were pictures of the Mongolian celebrations in the Vancouver Sun this morning - the events in UB specifically.
Your pictures however were more interesting.

At first I thought it was a "Nacho Libre" movie party. On second look though, the guy in the blue party pants doesn't look like Jack Black after all.

Much anticipation for the video of you having your dignity kiss the dirt.

This afternoon everyone crowded around the TV to watch the final bout broadcast from UB. It was like game 7 of the Stanley cup.(Except for the tight, blue banana-hammocks and funny hats)
